In Yavapai County, the Elections Department reports to the County Board of Supervisors.
Duties of the Elections Department:
- Conduct Primary, General and Presidential Preference elections
- Conduct County-level Initiative, Referendum, and Recall elections
- Contract election services with various jurisdictions in the county such as:
- Cities & towns
- Special Districts (fire, domestic water & waste water improvement, sanitary, road improvement, hospital, etc.)
- School districts (in conjunction with the Yavapai County Education Service Agency)
- Reserve Vote Centers:
- Ensure that every Vote Center meets ADA standards for accessibility
- Hire and train 300+ poll workers to staff Vote Centers
- Prepare & deliver voting booths, and all Vote Center supplies
- Test & deliver accessible voting equipment units, electronic poll books, and ballot on demand printers
- The Elections Department is also responsible for:
- Preparation, ordering & testing of all ballots
- Candidate and political campaign filings
- Tabulation of ballots
- Preparation of election results for Canvass
- Periodically reviewing election precinct boundaries for necessary updates
Preliminary election results are usually available after 8:00 p.m. election night on the Yavapai County website.
